GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team's 2025 season came to a close Friday (May 2) as the fourth-seed Gators fell to third-seed Geneva in an elimination game at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament 6-3.
Allegheny rallied in the seventh but were unable to overcome the deficit.
The Gators scored in the top of the first.
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) hit a two-out single to left field.
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) followed up with a double to the right center gap, bringing Devries around from first
In the bottom of the frame, the Golden Tornadoes took advantage of a leadoff triple to tie the game on a sacrifice fly. Later in the inning, Geneva added two more runs with two outs to take a 3-1 lead.
Allegheny put two runners on in the second after an
Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) single and
Halle Book (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) being hit by a pitch. However, the Golden Tornadoes made it out of the inning without surrendering a run.
Geneva's lead grew to 4-1 in the bottom of the second as they scored off a sacrifice fly.
After a scoreless third and fourth inning, the Gators made up a run in the fifth.
Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) started the inning with a double and moved up on a passed ball.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) drove her home on a single to right, cutting the deficit to 4-2.
The Golden Tornadoes answered in the bottom of the frame with a pair of two-out runs, pushing their lead to 6-2.
Neither team scored in the sixth as the Gators had one more chance in the seventh.
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) and Sharp hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning. Blarr moved up to third following an error and scored on a Book RBI single as they cut the lead to 6-3. Phillips kept the rally going with a single to load the bases. However, Geneva recorded the final two outs to end the game.
