PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team could not overcome a fast start by Chatham as they fell to the Cougars 10-8 on the road in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday (April 9).

The Cougars held the Gators off the board in the first quarter while gaining a 5-0 advantage after 15 minutes of play. The score stayed the same all the way until the final five minutes of the half.
Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) took advantage of a free-position opportunity with four minutes left to put the Gators on the board, but Allegheny trailed 5-1 at the break.

The Gators struck first in the third quarter when
Ava Best (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored off an assist by
Ema Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle). The Cougars answered with two straight goals, but the Gators scored a pair of their own late in the frame. Petrarca scored her second goal of the game before
Erin Lowthert (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) converted a free-position shot to bring the Cougar lead back to three goals. In the final minute, each side scored with
Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) finding the back of the net on a Caragein assist.

After a Chatham goal in the fourth, the Gators scored the next two. Petrarca completed a hat trick with her third goal of the game before Best scored her second, assisted by Smith, on an extra-player opportunity. The back-and-forth continued as a Chatham goal was answered by Lowthert. However, that proved to be the final goal of the game as the Cougars held on for the PAC win.
