MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team concluded their 2025 regular season at home with a sweep of Penn State Behrend Thursday (April 24).
The Gators rallied in the sixth to win game one 4-2 and won game two 4-3.
Game One - Allegheny 4, Penn State Behrend 2
The Lions threatened a few times in the early innings, but the Gators got out the situation unscathed each time.
In the bottom of the fifth,
Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) and
Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) had back-to-back infield singles.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) delivered a single through the left side of the infield, bringing Perillo around from second for the game's first run.
Penn State Behrend gained the lead in the sixth, scoring twice off an error to take the lead.
The lead was short lived as
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) sent the first pitch of the bottom of the inning over the outfield fence, tying the game at two. The home run was her eighth of the year.
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) followed up with a double down the third base line.
Catherine Burkett (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek) pinch ran for her. After
Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) drew a walk to put two runners on.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) hit a pinch hit double to left, clearing the vases and giving the Gators a 4-2 lead.
The Lions threatened in the seventh with two runners on and two outs, but
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) struck out the final batter to seal the win.
Inside the Box
- Belardinelli earned the win. She struck out eight without allowing an earned run.
- Devries hit a solo home run.
- Long drove in two runs on a pinch hit double.
- Phillips also drove in a run.
- Genareo doubled while Perillo and Seneca also tallied hits.
Game Two - Allegheny 4, Penn State Behrend 3
The Gators took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Belardinelli and Devries were on base when Genareo singled to left to drive in Belardinelli. A throwing error on the play allowed Devries to score as well and send Genareo to third. Long then hit a sacrifice fly to score Genareo for the third run.
The Lions made up a run in the second, taking advantage of an error to cut the lead to 3-1. The score remained that way until the fifth when Penn State Behrend added one more run.
Allegheny added a run in the fifth.
Abby Tomkowski (Midland, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts) pinch ran for Devries after she singled. After moving up on a wild pitch, Genareo drove her home with a double down the third base line, making it 4-2.
Penn State Behrend scored once in the sixth and threatened with a runner in the seventh, but the Gators did not allow a run across as they completed the sweep.
Inside the Box
- Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) earned the win, striking out five while allowing one earned run.
- Genareo went three-for-three with a double, driving in two runs.
- Phillips and Devries had two hits apiece.
- Long drove in a run.

- The Gators end the regular season with a 22-14 overall record, their third straight 20 win season.
- All-time against Penn State Behrend, Allegheny is now 37-10.
- Devries hit her 21st career home run in game one, moving her into sole possession of fourth all-time in program history.
