Baseball Splits Doubleheader with Anderson

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Allegheny baseball team split a doubleheader against Anderson Tuesday (March 4) at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida.

The Gators won game one 2-1 in extra innings before falling 3-2 in the second game.

Game One - Allegheny 2, Anderson 1 (9 innings)

After a scoreless three innings, the Gators got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Ryan Cochran (Pittsburgh, Pa./Deer Lakes) was hit by a pitch with one out. Ty Eberhardt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hopewell) followed up with a double to move him to third. Liam Irving (Olney, Md./Sherwood) was walked with two outs to load the bases for Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice). Jennings singled up the middle to bring Cochran in.

The Ravens matched the Gators' run in the sixth inning when they took home on a double steal.

The game remained deadlocked at one through regulation, leading to extra innings.

In the eighth, neither side was able to produce a baserunner as the game moved into the ninth inning.

A single and a hit batsman put two runners on for Anderson in the top of the frame, but the Gators got out of the inning unscathed.

Jennings led-off the bottom of the frame with a single to center field. Similar to the top of the frame, Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) was hit by a pitch to put a second runner on. A sacrifice bunt by Nick Banez (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) moved each runner up before Tyler Skaggs (Champion Heights, Ohio/Champion) was intentionally walked to load the bases.

After a flyout put two outs on the board, Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) entered as a pinch hitter. The senior came through in the clutch, singling to center to bring Jennings in for the winning run.

  • Jennings, who was the starting pitcher, went four-for-five at the plate, scoring the winning run and driving in the other. On the mound, he went six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out seven.

  • JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove), William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) and Eberhardt all recorded hits.

Anderson struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the third on four hits and an error.

The Gators threatened once again in the fourth as Jennings and Skaggs singled. However, the Ravens once again got out of the inning without surrendering a run.

The Ravens added another run in the sixth, scoring off of a pair of hits to extend their lead to 3-0.

With one out in the seventh, Robinson hit an infield single at the shortstop. In a pinch hit opportunity, Eberhardt doubled to left field, moving Robinson to third. After a walk to Bryant-Dawson, Wolff hit a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 3-1.
