UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Allegheny softball team continued nonconference play on the road Tuesday (March 18), picking up a sweep of John Carroll.
The Gators won game one 3-0 and game two 5-2. The Allegheny pitchers combined to allow just three hits in the two games.
Game One - Allegheny 3, John Carroll 0
All three runs for the Gators came in the top of the first.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) led-off the game with a second, moving to second on a misplay. After
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) drew a walk,
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) singled to load the bases.
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) hit into an error, allowing the first run to score. Then, with two outs,
Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) hit a single that plated Belardinelli and Devries.
The three runs proved to be all Allegheny needed to secure the win. Belardinelli carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh until the Blue Streaks finally registered a single with one out. John Carroll had two runners on in the inning, but the Gators shut the door for the win.

Halle Book (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) drove Genareo in on a single through the left side, making it 4-0.
The score remained 4-0 until the fifth inning. Sharp started the inning off with a double to right center. Book recorded her second RBI of the game later in the frame, bringing Sharp around to make it 5-0.
