MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team opened up the home portion of their 2025 schedule with a nonconference doubleheader against Mount Aloysius, sweeping the Mounties Wednesday (March 12).
Game One - Allegheny 4, Mount Aloysius 1
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) drew a walk to lead-off the bottom of the first and moved up on an
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) sacrifice bunt.
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) put runners on the corners with a single to the left side.
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) was walked with two outs to load the bases. However, the Mounties made it out of the inning without a run scoring.
Belardinelli held the Mounties at-bay early, striking out six batters through three innings.
Phillips once again led-off an inning by reaching base, this time with a double in the third. Belardinelli helped her own cause, doubling to the right center gap to score Phillips for the game's first run.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) reached on an error and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield). Phillips would knock Sharp in on another Mountie error as the lead reached 2-0.
The Mounties made up a run in the fifth, plating one run to cut the lead in half.
The Gators added two runs in the sixth.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) reached on an error. A sacrifice fly by Perillo that was dropped by the outfielder scored Long. A single up the middle by Devries plated Perillo as the lead grew to 4-1.
Belardinelli kept the Mounties off the board in the sixth as the Gators took game one 4-1.
Inside the Box
- Belardinelli earned the win. Going the distance, she struck out 10 batters while allowing just one run. At the plate, she had two hits, including a double.
- Devries had two hits, including a RBI single.
- Phillips doubled while Perillo drove in a run.
Game Two - Allegheny 4, Mount Aloysius 0
The Gators loaded the bases in the first with hits by Phillips and Devries with an error in between. However, the Mounties forced three straight groundouts to get out of the jam.
In the second, Sharp singled to right and moved to third on a Phillips hit up the middle. Belardinelli drove Sharp in on a single through the left side as the Gators got on the scoreboard first.
Allegheny threatened in the fourth. Long doubled to the right center gap before Sharp doubled on the left field line, moving Long to third. They later loaded the bases with a walk, but were unable to push a run across.
In the sixth, Sharp and Book both reached safely on errors with no outs. A RBI groundout by Phillips brought Sharp home for the Gators' second run. Belardinelli drove Book in for the next run. The final run came on a Devries double which scored Belardinelli.
The Mounties threatened in the top of the seventh with a pair of hits, but
Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) guided the Gators out of the situation unscathed as they completed the sweep.
Inside the Box
- Dzierba picked up the win in shutout fashion. She scattered four hits while striking out four.
- Belardinelli drove in two runs on two hits.
- Devries had a RBI double with two total hits.
- Sharp also doubled as part of her two hits.
- Phillips had two singles with a RBI.
- Long doubled while Blarr and Genareo singled.
- The Gators tallied 11 hits.

- Today marked the first meeting between the two programs.
