Wooster Wins Midweek Matchup, 13-7

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- In a game that featured four home runs and a slew of pitching changes, the visitors from the College of Wooster defeated the Allegheny College baseball team, 13-7, in the 2025 home opener at Robert M. Garbark '32 Field on Wednesday.

In a classic midweek, non-conference showdown, Allegheny (5-5) and Wooster (3-7) used a combined 10 pitchers to finish all nine innings on a seasonably warm March afternoon. Both teams brought out the bats, but the Fighting Scots jumped ahead 8-1 through the first four innings and never looked back.

A two-run home run in the third and back-to-back triples in the fourth helped Wooster roar ahead in the early going. In the fifth, however, the Gators showed comeback potential with a five-spot of their own. Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) slugged a no-doubt grand slam in the fifth that shaved the deficit down to 8-5 in favor of the Fighting Scots. Tyler Skaggs (Champion Heights, Ohio/Champion) then doubled and scored on a Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) two-out base knock, which made it a two-run game and chased another Wooster reliever from the mound.

Just when Allegheny began to gather momentum, the Fighting Scots answered. After an error allowed one run to score, Nick Pett hit a two-run homer, extending Wooster's lead back to 11-6.

Allegheny's Nick Banez (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) added a solo shot in the eighth, but that was the only run Wooster right fielder Alex Gerdenrich allowed after moving to the mound to close out the last 3.2 innings.
