MEADVILLE, Pa. – A late comeback attempt by the Allegheny women's basketball team fell short as they dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to Grove City, 77-68, Wednesday (Feb. 5).
In the game,
Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) tied the Allegheny career blocks record of 189.
The teams were even early on until a 6-0 Wolverine run gave them a 13-7 lead at the first media timeout. The Gators brought the game within two points, 13-11, after the timeout. However, the Wolverines ended the frame on a 10-2 run to lead 23-13 heading into the second.
The teams battled back-and-forth early in the second quarter as the Wolverines maintained their eight point advantage, 30-22. The Wolverines then started to slowly grow their advantage as it reached as much as 19 points before the Gators cut it to 15, 48-33, at the half.
Bella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) led the Gators with 10 points in the opening half.
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) added eight points while
Ava Kobus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Norwin) had six.
Allegheny outpaced the Wolverines by a 6-4 mark over the first five minutes of the second half to cut the lead down to 52-39. In the final minutes of the third, the Gators continued to slowly chip away at the lead, bringing it down to 10, 58-48, before a buzzer beater brought it back to 12 points heading into the final frame.
The Gators dropped the lead to single digits, 62-53, after starting the fourth on a 5-2 run. The lead remained around 10 points until a three by Antonacci brought the lead to 66-59 with just over two minutes remaining.
After a pair of free-throws, another Antonacci three made it a six point game. Genareo then hit a three on their next possession to bring the lead to 69-65. However, the Wolverines were able to convert free throws down the final stretch as they held off the late Allegheny comeback.

- Antonacci led the Gators with 19 points to go alongside seven rebounds and three assists.
- Kobus finished with 12 points.
- Bickart had a solid overall game with 11 points, seven assists and six steals.
- Santicola had her 12th double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 10 points.

- Genaro had seven points and three rebounds.
- Allegheny finished the game shooting 37.9% (25-66) from the floor, making nine threes.

- The Gators are now 13-7 overall and 12-3 in PAC action this season.
- Allegheny is now 30-18 all-time against the Wolverines.
- Santicola entered the contest with 187 career blocks. With two blocks tonight, she tied the Allegheny career block record of 189 set by Kaitlyn Fromknecht.
