MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team opened the home portion of their 2025 season Wednesday (Feb. 26) against Mount Union, falling to the Raiders 17-7.
The first quarter belonged to the Raiders as they scored 11 unanswered goals. The lead grew to 12-0 before the Gators got on the board in the second quarter. On a free-position attempt,
Ema Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle) found the back of the net.
Kendall Cox (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) took advantage of an extra player opportunity, scoring a second goal for the Gators, but the team trailed 13-2 at the half.
Mount Union struck first in the second half before
Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) scored after driving through the Raider defense. Late in the quarter,
Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) scored on a free-position goal as the Gators trailed 15-4 heading into the final frame.
Smith netted her second goal of the contest on an extra player opportunity just 20 seconds into the fourth. The Gators earned another extra player opportunity just a few minutes later. Petrarca capitalized on the opportunity off an assist by Cox to cut the lead to single digits. Caragein scored the Gators fourth straight goal just a minute later. However, Mount Union scored the final two goals of the game to seal the win.
