WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's basketball team returned to action Monday (Dec. 29) as they played at the Smokey Bellinger Classic against host Otterbein, falling to the Cardinals 88-51.
Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) scored the first ten points for the Gators as the teams were tied 10-10 four minutes in. The Cardinals went on a 12-2 run to take a 22-14 lead following the media timeout, but the Gators cut into the lead with a quick five point run. However, the Cardinals outpaced the Gators 27-6 the rest of the half as they led 49-25 at halftime.
Lang led the Gators with 10 points and five rebounds in the first half while
James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview) had five.
Pijus Latauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania/Kiski Prep (Pa.)) started the second half with a three, but Otterbein responded with nine straight points to push their lead.
Otterbein continued to add to their lead as they outscored the Gators 39-26 in the second half to hold their lead.
