Men’s Soccer Celebrates Senior Day With 5-1 Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's soccer team celebrated their Senior Day with a 5-1 Presidents Athletic Conference (PAC) victory against Bethany Saturday (Oct. 18)
 
Before the match, the Gators celebrated their four graduating members: Aidan Dyga (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Renen Frank (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), Jacob Kubik-Pauw (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Hanover (N.H.)) and Adam Rumble (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary).
 
The Gators needed just 31 seconds to get onto the board. A lead pass by Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) got Dyga behind the Bethany backline. After a quick move around the goalie, Dyga buried the shot in the back of the net. The goal marked his second of the season.
 
After some back-and-forth play, Bethany tied the game on a penalty kick in the 36th minute.
 
Allegheny was quick to respond. The team earned a free kick from just outside the box. Gruca converted on a low shot inside the post as the Gators regained the lead. The goal was his eighth of the year.
 
Similar to the opening half, not much time came off the clock before the Gators scored. This time, the Gators were awarded a penalty kick. Gruca took the attempt and scored in the lower corner for his second goal of the contest. 
 
The Gators needed just another minute to make it 4-1. Off a Gruca free kick, Billy Sprott (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) redirected a header into the back of the net. It marked his second goal of the year.
 
In the 73rd minute, the Gators made it 5-1. After Xavier Mwaura (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) created a turnover deep in the Bethany end, Ransom Perkins (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory School) took a shot that was saved. However for the Gators, Mwaura was quick to follow up on the rebound as his shot found the back of the net. It marked his first collegiate goal.

  • Gruca assisted Dyga just 31 seconds into play.
  • Bethany tied the game on a penalty kick in the 36th minute.
  • Gruca put the Gators in front, scoring on a free kick in the 39th minute and the 48th minute on a penalty kick.
  • Sprott headed in a free kick from Gruca in the 49th minute.
  • Mwaura scored off a Perkins assist in the 73rd minute.
  • Cadan Bennett (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) made five saves.
  • The Gators led in shots (18-9) and corners (7-2).

  • Allegheny is now 5-16-3 all-time against Bethany.
  • Dyga scored his fifth career goal.
  • Gruca had his 16th and 17th career goals and 13th and 14th career assists.
  • Sport had his second career goal while Mwaura had his first collegiate goal.
  • Perkins had his third assist of the year.
