Football Drops PAC Contest at Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND -- The Allegheny College football team suffered a 62-21 loss on the road against Case Western Reserve University in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday evening.

CWRU (3-2-1, 3-1 PAC) earned its third consecutive conference victory, bolstered by a strong first-half performance. The Spartans scored touchdowns on their first three offensive drives and took advantage of a pair of Allegheny (2-4, 2-2 PAC) turnovers in the second quarter to jump out to a 42-0 lead before halftime.

The Gators scored all three of their touchdowns in the second half while outscoring the Spartans, 21-20, across the last 30 minutes of the contest. Allegheny's most explosive offensive play of the game came on its first drive in the third quarter, when Devin Larry (Loganville, Ga./Loganville Christian) got behind the Case Western Reserve defense and scored on a 46-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Nick Barker (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan).

On the ensuing Spartan possession, senior linebacker Coltin Colucci (Brewster, Ohio/Fairless) picked off quarterback Andrew Lowe and nearly returned the interception for a touchdown. Lowe, however, managed to push Colucci out of bounds at the two-yard line. Second-year running back Dominic Berarducci (Erie, Pa./McDowell) bulldozed his way into the endzone on the second of two consecutive carries for Allegheny's second touchdown in less than three minutes.

Barker and Berarducci guided the Gators on a 10-play, 67-yard drive in the fourth quarter for their third touchdown. Facing a fourth and five from CWRU's 25-yard line, Barker connected with Will Griffin (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) on a deep pass over the middle of the field, and the senior tight end broke one tackle on his way to the endzone.
