NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny women's basketball team moved to 7-1 in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play as they picked up a road conference win at Westminster, 74-65, Wednesday (Jan. 8).
The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the opening eight minutes of the game as neither side was able to find a distinct advantage. In the final two minutes of the frame, a three pointer by
Jasmyn Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) kicked off a 7-0 run to end the quarter.
Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) scored the other four points in the run as Allegheny led 21-14.
The Gators continued to grow their lead in the second quarter as it reached 11 points following a 6-0 run. Once again, Santicola provided four points in the run. A late Titan three cut the lead to eight, but Allegheny owned a 38-30 lead at the half.
Santicola led the team with 10 points in the opening 20 minutes.
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) had nine points while
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) had seven.
Allegheny went on a 6-0 run in just a 50 second span early in the third to increase their lead to 44-30. In that span, the Gators forced a pair of turnovers quickly leading to baskets. Midway through the half, a basket by Lauer gave the Gators their largest lead of the evening to that point at 16 points. Westminster would go on a 10-2 run in the final minutes of the quarter but Allegheny maintained a 55-48 lead as the game entered the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter started with a 9-0 run by the Gators as they pulled back ahead, 64-48. A layup by Santicola midway through gave the Gators a 17 point advantage, 68-51. In the closing minutes, the Gators kept their distance from the Titans as they picked up the conference victory.
Inside the Box
- Lauer led the Gators in scoring with 17 points to go alongside three assists, two rebounds and two steals.
- Santicola finished with a 12 point, 12 rebound double-double. She also had three steals.
- Bickart neared a triple-double, finishing with 11 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds and three steals.
- Ava Kobus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Norwin) was the fourth Gator to score double-digits, ending the game with 10 points and five rebounds.
- Fisher tied a season-high with nine points.
- Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) had eight rebounds, six points and three rebounds.
- Bella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) had six points and three rebounds while Analyse Rios (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek) had three points.
- The Gators had a 42-37 edge in rebounding.
- Allegheny forced 22 turnovers which led to 28 points.
