LATROBE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's basketball team had its two-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win streak snapped by Saint Vincent College on Saturday night by a 91-75 final score inside the Robert S. Carey Center.
The Gators (5-9, 3-6 PAC) got off to a quick start and closed the second half with a spirited performance, but it wasn't enough to dethrone the Bearcats (11-3, 7-2 PAC), runners-up in last year's PAC Championship Tournament.
Allegheny broke a 2-2 tie with seven consecutive points, including a 3-pointer from
Jayson Perry (Tampa, Fla./Sickles), to take an early lead.
James Sitter (Erie, Pa./Fairview) added another 3-point field goal at the 14:46 mark that widened the gap to eight points in Allegheny's favor at 15-7. Saint Vincent, however, shook off the rusty start over the next two-plus minutes, scoring 12 unanswered points to jump ahead 19-15.
By the half, the Bearcats pushed their advantage to 54-29, and after logging the first six points of the second half, Saint Vincent had its largest lead of the contest at 60-29. But Allegheny did fold under the pressure and turned the lopsided affair into a respectable final result. The Gators outscored the Bearcats 46-37 in the second stanza and managed to whittle the deficit down to just 14 points on two separate occasions.
