MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team collected their second Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep of the weekend as they took two from Bethany Sunday (April 7) in Meadville.
The Gators used late rallies in each game for the wins, taking game one 5-4 and game two 2-1.
Game One - Allegheny 5, Bethany 4
After a scoreless two innings, the Bison got on the board in the third inning, plating three unearned runs.
The Gators responded in the bottom of the frame.
Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) led off with a single and moved up on an
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) sacrifice bunt.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) then delivered a double to right field to bring her in.
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) started the fourth inning with a solo shot over the left center fence, cutting the lead to one. The home run was her second of the season and the fourth of her career.
The Gators tied the game in the sixth. WIth
Arianna Wilkinson (Warren, Ohio/Howland) pinch running at second and
Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) at first after a single,
Halle Book (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) doubled to left center, bringing Wilkinson in to tie the game.
The Bison would regain the lead in the top of the seventh, scoring a run on two hits.
Once again, the Gators responded in the bottom of the frame. With one out and a full count, Long homered over the right center fence to tie the game at four. The home run was her first of the year and 13th as a Gator.
The inning continued as Belardinelli singled and Phillips doubled to set up Devries. A shot by Devries to the right center fence brought Belardinelli in as the Gators completed the comeback and earned the conference victory.
Inside the Box
- Devries and Long both had two hits and two RBI with each homering.
- Phillips had a two-hit game with a double.
- Book also tallied a double.
- Belardinelli earned the win for the Gators, giving up one earned run while striking out eight.
Game Two - Allegheny 2, Bethany 1
The Bison gained an early advantage in game two, scoring off a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
Allegheny made up the run in the third. Blarr reached on an error and stole second. After an infield single by Belardinelli, Phillips singled through the left side of the infield, driving Blarr home to tie the game.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth. Book knocked a two-out double to right center.
Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) then delivered her own double to deep left field, bringing Book around and giving Allegheny the lead.
Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) held down the fort in the bottom of the seventh as the Gators completed the sweep.
Inside the Box
- Book and Horesnky had two hits apiece with doubles.
- Phillips also delivered an RBI single.
- Dzierba earned the decision in the circle, giving up just one run and four hits.
News and Notes
- Allegheny moved to 14-4 overall and 5-1 in PAC play.
- The Gators improved to 18-14 all-time against the Bison.
