Softball Concludes Regular Season Against John Carroll

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team concluded their regular season with a nonconference twinbill against John Carroll, dropping a close two games to the Blue Streaks.

The Gators dropped game one 5-4 and game two 4-3.

Game One - John Carroll 5, Allegheny 4

The Blue Streaks took an early lead, scoring an unearned run in the first inning. However, their lead did not last long. After Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) was walked, Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) launched her 10th home run of the season over the left field fence.

In the second, John Carroll took advantage of a pair of errors to score another two unearned runs to jump ahead, 3-2. They added two more runs in the fourth to extend it to 5-2.

Phillips and Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) hit back-to-back singles in the fifth. Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) delivered a two-RBI single through the left side, cutting the lead to one.

However, the Gators were unable to produce another run as they fell in game one 5-4.

Inside the Box

Game Two - John Carroll 4, Allegheny 3

Belardinelli tripled with one out in the bottom of the first before scoring off a wild pitch for the game's first run.

The score stayed that way until the top of the fifth when the Blue Streaks scored four runs on four hits and two errors to take the lead.

In the sixth, Genareo reached on an error before Godzak singled. That hit marked the 100th of Godzak's career. With two outs, Blarr singled to center, allowing the two base runners to score, cutting the lead to one.

Phillips earned a walk to start the bottom of the seventh. Belardinelli moved her over on a sacrifice bunt. Genareo reached on an error to put runners on the corners. However, the Blue Streaks were able to get out of the situation without allowing a run to score.
