Gators Drop Nonconference Contest to Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny baseball team traveled to Washington and Jefferson for a nonconference contest Thursday (April 25), falling to the Presidents 16-4.
 
After W&J broke up the scoreless game in the bottom of the third with four runs, the Gators got on the board in the fourth. Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) was walked to lead off the inning. After moving to third on a pair of groundouts, he came across the plate on a wild pitch.
 
The Presidents added runs over the next several innings before the Gators struck again, scoring three in the seventh. Andrew Stablewski (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Academy) was walked and Antonio Rios (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. Drew Evans (Erie, Colo./Erie) then delivered his first collegiate hit, a RBI single to centerfield, bringing home a run. Nico Melograne (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) was also hit by a pitch to load the bases for Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)). The junior singled through the left side, scoring a pair of runs.
 
However, W&J added three more runs in the eighth as they closed out the game without allowing another Gator run.
 
Inside the Box
  • Six Gators recorded hits.
  • Bryant-Dawson drove in two runs. He was also the starting pitcher for the Gators, striking out three batters.
  • Evans had an RBI single.
  • William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast), Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River), Stablewski and Jennings all tallied a hit.

  • The Gators are now 20-11 on the season.
  • Allegheny is now 51-24 all-time and W&J.
  • Jennings extended his hitting streak to 24 games.
  • Evans recorded his first career hit.
