WAYNESBURG, Pa. – Bella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) scored a career-high 32 points as the Allegheny women's basketball team picked up an 87-59 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road win at Waynesburg Saturday (Dec. 7).
The first quarter went back-and-forth for the majority of the opening 10 minutes. In the final thirty seconds, however, the Yellowjackets scored back-to-back baskets as they led 24-17 heading into the second.
Allegheny bounced back in the second quarter by opening it on a 12-0 run. Antonacci provided 10 of those 12 points. Waynesburg fought back to tie the game at 34 with three minutes remaining in the half. The teams continued to trade baskets as they finished the first half tied at 41 apiece.
The Gators gained control of the contest in the third quarter. They limited the Yellowjackets to just eight points in the frame while putting together runs of 9-2 and 11-0 to take a 63-49 lead into the final quarter.
Waynesburg cut the deficit to 65-57 early in the fourth. Once more, the Gators responded in a big way, this time scoring 16 unanswered points.
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) had half of the points in that run. The Allegheny defense clamped down once again, allowing just 10 points as they cruised to the conference victory.
Inside the Box
- Antonacci led the Gators with a career-best 32 points on 14-of-22 shooting (63.6%) from the floor. She also had four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
- Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) was second on the team with a dozen points to go alongside five rebounds and three assists.
- Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was the third Gator in double-figures, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Genareo had eight points and four rebounds.
- Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) led the team with 17 rebounds to go with seven points, four assists and two blocks.
- Jasmyn Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) had a season-high seven points.
- Ava Kobus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Norwin) and Pascale Olczak (Plum, Pa./Plum) had four points each.
- As a team, the Gators shot 42.1% (32-76) from the floor with nine three pointers made.
- Allegheny held a 53-41 advantage in rebounds and blocked six shots.
News and Notes
- The Gators moved to 4-0 in PAC play. It marks their first 4-0 start in conference play since the 2006-07 season.
- Allegheny is now 15-2 all-time against Waynesburg.
