Women’s Basketball Falls to Albion

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Allegheny women's basketball team traveled to Indiana Friday (Nov. 15) to face Albion in their first game of the Cameron Hospital Classic, hosted by Trine.

The Gators fell to the Britons 48-42.

After trading baskets in the opening minutes, the Britons went on an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 lead. The Gators made up some ground late in the quarter, outscoring Albion 6-4 in the final three minutes to cut the lead to 16-10.

The second quarter saw back-and-forth action for most of the frame. In the final two minutes, a three by Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) cut the deficit to 22-19. A late basket by Albion was matched by one from Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) as the Gators trailed 24-21 at the break.

The Gators were led in the opening half by Santicola with 10 points and seven rebounds while Lauer had seven points. The teams were evenly matched with 23 rebounds each.

Allegheny came out of the break on a 7-0 run to take a 28-24 lead. Lauer capped off the run with a traditional three point play. The Britons answered with their own 7-0 run to retake the lead. That lead was short lived as the Gators closed the frame on a 6-1 run to lead 34-32 heading into the final quarter.

An early Allegheny basket gave them a four point lead in the fourth. However, the Britons battled back and gained the lead with just over four minutes to go, 41-40. Down the stretch, the Britons' defense held off the Gator offense as Allegheny fell 48-42.
