Javes Guides Volleyball to Fifth Consecutive PAC Victory

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's volleyball team won its fifth consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match with a straight-set victory over Grove City College on the road Wednesday night.

Allegheny (19-5, 5-0 PAC) remains the only undefeated team in the PAC standings halfway through the conference schedule, while Wednesday's win marked the fourth in a row for the Gators.

The reigning PAC Offensive Player of the Week, Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School), led the charge against the Wolverines (12-10, 3-3 PAC). The senior middle hitter crushed the ball to the tune of a .485 attack percentage and a match-leading 18 kills. Javes was the only player in the match to post double-digit kills and nearly matched Grove City's kill total by herself.

Javes began to heat up late in the opening set. Six of Allegheny's final nine points in the first were earned by Javes, who had five kills and one block assist. That helped Allegheny close the set with a decisive 25-15 advantage.

Leading 15-13 in the second, the Blue and Gold ended the set by winning 10 of the last 13 points. Six of those were kills, with three from Javes and one apiece from Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren), Sidney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic), and Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills).

In the third, Allegheny went on a 6-0 run that turned a 14-10 lead into a 10-point cushion at 20-10. But the Wolverines responded and made the third set the closest set of the night. Grove City earned seven of the following 10 points, but Javes finished a close play at the net and Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) logged the match point to halt the comeback attempt.
