MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team secured the top seed in the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament and its third consecutive undefeated PAC regular season on Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Athletic Complex.
The Gators (12-2, 8-0 PAC) played twice on Saturday, but the first match was the most important. Allegheny opened its doubleheader with a 7-0 shutout win over Westminster College in its PAC finale. It marked the 24th consecutive PAC victory for the Gators, who have yet to lose a regular-season conference match since joining the PAC ahead of the 2022-23 season.
In the nightcap, the Blue and Gold hosted Division II PennWest California. The Vulcans (4-1) snapped Allegheny's 12-match win streak with a 7-0 win.
Needing the win against a conference opponent, Allegheny put out its top lineup against the Titans (7-3, 5-3 PAC), who qualified for the PAC Championship Tournament as the fourth seed. In doubles action, the No. 1 duo of
Julia Müsseler (Munich, Germany/Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium) and
Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) improved to 9-0 as a team with a 6-4 victory over Westminster's Gia Francisco and Emma Sukal. The Gators won all three doubles matches, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead.
Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) and Müsseler posted identical scores in the top two singles matches, winning both 6-2, 6-2. As a result, Müsseler finished the PAC schedule undefeated with a combined 15-0 record. With a 6-3, 6-4 win in the fifth singles match,
Alejandra Villanueva (Bogotá, Colombia/French Touch Academy) picked up her team-leading eighth PAC singles victory as the only Gator to earn a win against every conference opponent.
Nicole Serna Cassan (Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico/Grandview Preparatory (Fla.)) and
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) also earned their seventh PAC singles wins, as both finished the regular season 7-0 against league opponents.
