MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team had their 10-game winning streak snapped Tuesday (Oct. 1) as they fell to Baldwin Wallace in three sets.
The Yellow Jackets won the sets 27-25, 25-19 and 25-20.
In the opening set,
Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) tallied her 1,000th career assist.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the opening set after scoring the first four points. After a timeout, the Gators fought back to tie the set at 14 all. After Baldwin Wallace went on a 3-0 run, the Gators answered with four straight points to take their first lead of the set. The teams continued to trade points back-and-forth. A kill by
Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) put the Gators up 22-20, leading to Baldwin Wallace's final timeout. The Yellow Jackets fended off a pair of set points to tie the set at 24. After stopping another set point, the Yellow Jackets captured the set 27-25.
Baldwin Wallace had an early advantage in the second set before a 5-0 Allegheny run put the Gators in the lead, 7-6. The teams were evenly matched throughout most of the set until the Yellow Jackets rattled off six straight points to push ahead, 20-16. The Gators were unable to overcome that run as they fell behind 2-0.
In the third set, the Yellow Jackets went on a 7-2 run to take control, 12-8, after the Gators opened with the lead. Allegheny made it close at various junctures, but were unable to overcome the deficit as they dropped the match in three sets.
Inside the Box
- Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) led the Gators with 13 kills and a pair of blocks.
- Bawek had 10 kills and eight digs.
- Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) finished with six kills.
- Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) had five kills and two blocks while Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) had three kills and two blocks.
- Gray led the team with 19 assists, besting the 1,000 career mark in that category.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) added 16 assists.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had 27 digs.
- Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) added 12 digs while Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy ((Utah)) had six.
