STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny men's basketball team was unable to overcome a big second half by Franciscan as they fell to the Barons 94-69 Saturday (Jan. 6) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The opening 10 minutes of the game featured nine lead changes and four ties as Franciscan led 23-21. The Barons' lead never grew to more than five points before a pair of
Ryan Lang (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) free-throws tied it at 37 late in the half. On their next possession,
Jayson Perry (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) earned a trip to the free-throw line and converted both attempts to give the Gators their first lead in 10 minutes. Each side hit a three in the final minute as the Gators led 42-40 at the break.
Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) led Allegheny with 11 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in the first half.
Mike Noonan (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) added nine points while Lang had seven. As a team, the Gators shot 56% (14-of-25) from the field, including six threes. They also blocked six shots in the 20 minute span.
The back-and-forth play trickled into the second half with the teams trading the lead multiple times before Franciscan started to pull away. The Barons lead grew to as much as 13 as they led 64-54 with 10 minutes remaining.
The Barons maintained their lead down the stretch as they held on for the conference win.
