LATROBE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's basketball team rebounded from its double-overtime loss on New Year's Eve and beat Saint Vincent College on the road, 66-53, on Wednesday night at the Robert S. Carey Student Center.
The Gators (5-8, 4-4 PAC), winners of three of their last four contests, moved into a tie for seventh place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings. Both Allegheny and Saint Vincent (6-7, 4-4 PAC) sit one spot outside the window for the six-team PAC Championship Tournament.
Wednesday's win was an all-around complete one. Allegheny shot an even 50.0% from the field, the second-best shooting percentage of the season. The Gators also made a season-high eight 3-pointers and finished with a plus-nine rebound margin, 42-33.Â
After the Bearcats tied the game at 18-all in the second quarter,
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) buried a 3-pointer to give the Gators the lead. From there,
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central),
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone), and
Analyse Rios (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek) knocked down treys, and Genareo hit three foul shots before halftime to extend the lead to 37-27.
The Gators, who never trailed following Bickart's second-quarter trey, led by as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter en route to the 13-point victory.
