MEADVILLE, Pa. -- All three members of the Allegheny College men's swimming team were victorious against Westminster College on Friday, but the shorthanded Gators dropped a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual to the Titans, 147.5-46.5.
Jack Malnar (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights),
Emmett Manning (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel), and
Emmet Fluharty (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) focused their attention on the sprints against Westminster. Four of the seven races in which Allegheny competed were of the 50-yard variety, and all seven were 200 yards or less.
In his first attempt at the 50-yard backstroke this season, Malnar earned a narrow victory over Westminster's Cory Webster. Malnar was clocked at 28.83 seconds and was 15-hundredths of a second quicker than Webster.
Fluharty was first in the 100-yard freestyle, second in the 50-yard breaststroke, and tied Michael Phillips from Westminster for third place in the 200-yard individual medley with identical times of 2:13.30.
Manning turned in a pair of gold-medal performances in the 50-yard freestyle and butterfly races. Neither race was particularly close, as the senior won both events by about one-and-a-half seconds.
