Gators Fall at 22nd-Ranked Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Allegheny men's soccer team continued nonconference play Saturday (Sept. 16) at Case Western Reserve, falling to the Spartans 4-1.
 
Case Western Reserve entered the game ranked 22nd in the most recent United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll. 
 
The Spartans got on the board first, striking early in the fourth minute. After some back-and-forth play, they extended their lead with a goal in the 33rd minute.
 
It took the Gators just 30 seconds to respond to the second goal. Allegheny quickly worked the ball down the field before Darius Googe (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) found the back of the net on a shot to the lower right side of the goal.
 
In the second half, Case Western Reserve limited the Gators' chances while tacking on two more goals to seal the win, 4-1.
 
Inside the Box
  • Case Western Reserve scored goals in the 4th, 33rd, 50th and 82nd minute.
  • Googe scored in the 33rd minute.
  • Gunnar Brettell (Steubenville, Ohio/Indian Creek) also put a shot on goal in the 49th minute.
  • Caleb Kendra (Beaver Falls, Pa./Riverside) made three stops in net.
  • The Spartans owned a 13-5 advantage in shots.

  • Allegheny is now 25-25-8 all-time against Case Western Reserve.
  • Googe's goal was his second of the season and eighth of his career.
