Women's Tennis Hosts Division II Edinboro

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team was beaten by Division II Edinboro University by a 9-0 final score on Monday evening at the Robertson Athletic Complex.

A mere 24 hours after finishing competition at the Kenyon College Invitational, the Gators faced a tough opponent in the D-II Fighting Scots. Although Allegheny was unable to secure a match, the Gators took several games throughout the lineup.

In doubles play, the first-year tandem of Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) and Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) battled two juniors, Rafaella Negrao De Almeida and Luciana Ponce, to an 8-4 decision. Fellow first-years Omega Ba (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) and Kayla Hay (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) also faced a pair of upperclasswomen and fought hard in a commendable 8-5 defeat.

Grydnieva and Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical) each took six games from their singles opponents at the No. 1 and No. 2 spot but lost in straight sets.
