MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College volleyball has released its schedule for the upcoming 2023 season, which will be the Gators' second in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) and sixth under head coach Kelly Barzak.

The Gators, who won 17 matches and qualified for the PAC tournament in their first season in the conference, have 28 matches on the schedule, including a dozen home matches and one tournament inside the David V. Wise Center.

For the second year in a row, Allegheny will start at the annual Great Lakes Crossover at the Cedar Point Sports Complex in Sandusky, Ohio. The Gators have four matches on the docket at the tournament, beginning with a 2:00 p.m. showdown against Heidelberg University on Friday, September 1.

The following weekend, Allegheny returns to Ohio for a quad match at Case Western Reserve University. The Gators open the CWRU quad on Friday, September 8, at 7:30 p.m. with a neutral-site match against Defiance College.

After nine consecutive matches away from Meadville, the Gators will return for the 2023 home opener on Wednesday, September 13, against Penn State Behrend. That weekend, Allegheny will host a two-day tournament, which includes contests against Fredonia State (9/15), Pitt-Greensburg (9/16), and John Carroll University (9/16).

The team will hold its alumni match prior to a non-conference meeting with Geneva College at the Wise Center on Saturday, September 23.

The 10-match PAC slate begins at home on Wednesday, October 4, against Thiel College. Two days later, the Gators will host Grove City College (10/6) to finish off a three-match homestand.

The Fighting Scots from the College of Wooster represent Allegheny's last non-conference opponent. The former North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) rival will take on the Gators in the Wise Center at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 14.

On Thursday, October 19, Allegheny will trek to Bethany, West Virginia, for an important PAC bout at Bethany College. The Bisons, the eventual conference champions, defeated the Gators on their home court in the 2022 PAC quarterfinals, although Allegheny won the regular-season meeting by a 3-1 final score.

The Gators will recognize the Class of 2024 on Senior Night during the penultimate regular-season match when Allegheny welcomes Washington and Jefferson College to the Wise Center on Wednesday, November 1. Regular-season action concludes on Saturday, November 4, with a road matchup at Waynesburg University.
