Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Presidents in PAC Championship Game

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny women's lacrosse team's 2023 campaign ended in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship game as they fell to Washington & Jefferson 14-10 Saturday (May 6).

The Gators end the year with a 14-5 record, their most wins in nearly a decade.

After some back-and-forth play to start, the Presidents found the back of the net first at the 11:18 mark. That lead was short lived as Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored off a Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) assist. However, the Presidents would score the next three goals to move ahead, 4-1. Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) broke up the run with the Gators' second goal, once again assisted by Perelman, as the Gators trailed 4-2 heading into the second.

The Gators needed just over a minute in the second to cut the lead to one. After assisting the first two goals, Perelman notched her own goal. W&J scored the next two goals to push their lead back to three goals. After a timeout by the Gators, they rattled off two straight goals. Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) struck first off an assist by Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) before Ema Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle) scored off Perelman's third assist. The back-and-forth play continued as the Presidents scored the next two goals before Petrarca scored the final goal of the half, assisted by Baginski, as W&J led 8-6 at halftime.

Perelman needed just over a minute to find the back of the net in the second half, as Perelman's unassisted goal cut the lead to one once more. Baginski earned a free-position shot a few minutes later and capitalized on the opportunity, knotting the game at eight apiece. However, the Presidents scored four unanswered goals to close out the quarter.

The W&J lead grew to five before Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) scored an unassisted goal to break up the run. Perelman completed her hat trick on a free-position attempt, cutting the lead to three. The Presidents added another goal in the final five minutes to make it 14-10. The Gators outshot the Presidents 11-6 in the fourth quarter, but Perelman's goal proved to be their only one of the frame as W&J sealed the PAC Championship win.
