WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team dropped their final two regular season Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games of the season, falling to Waynesburg 4-1 and 2-1.
Game One – Waynesburg 4, Allegheny 1
The Yellow Jackets got on the board in the first inning. After a two-out triple, a throwing error allowed the baserunner to score. They added one more unearned run in the second to increase the lead to 2-0.
The Gators got on the scoreboard in the third.
Isabelle Wakefield (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) hit a lead-off single and moved to second on a
Halle Book (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) sac bunt. A throwing error on an
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) groundout allowed her to cross the plate and cut the lead to one.
Waynesburg hit a lead-off home run in the fifth, taking their lead back to two runs. They added one more run in the sixth to move their lead to 4-1.
The Gators were unable to close the gap as they fell in game one.
Inside the Box
- Wakefield had both hits for the Gatos while scoring the lone run.
- Belardinelli gave up two earned runs while striking out five.
Game Two – Waynesburg 2, Allegheny 1
Similar to game one, the Yellow Jackets got on the board in the first inning. They loaded the bases with one out and scored one run.
Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) was able to record the next outs on strikeouts to get the Gators out of the situation.
In the third,
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) belted a solo home run to tie the game. The home run marked her seventh of the year.
However, Waynesburg was able to regain the lead in the fourth, scoring one run and two hits and an error.
Allegheny was unable to produce another run as they dropped the nightcap 2-1.
Inside the Box
- Long led the Gators with a solo home run, her seventh of the year.
- Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) and Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) also had a hit.
- Dzierba allowed one earned run on six hits while striking out five.
