Softball splits PAC twinbill against Titans

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team continued Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) by splitting a doubleheader against Westminster Sunday (April 2), winning game one 7-3 before falling 10-2 in game two.

Game One – Allegheny 7, Westminster 3

After a scoreless first, the Gator bats got to work in the second inning. Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) singled through the left side before Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) doubled to deep center. A Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) single scored Godzak for the first run. Halle Book (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) doubled with two outs, scoring Phillips and Horensky. An Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) hit brought Book around from second, making it 4-0.

The Titans threatened in the third, loading the bases with one out. However, Belardinelli got the Gators out of the inning unscathed, striking out the final two batters of the frame. In the bottom of the inning, Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) singled up the middle. Maley Gleason (Houston, Texas/Westside) stepped in as a pinch runner and scored on an error with two outs, moving the score to 5-0.

The Gators added two more runs in the fourth. Belardinelli was walked before Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) singled to shallow left. Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) singled to left field, scoring Belardinelli. Genareo followed up with a single down the right field line scoring Long for the seventh run.
