Gators travel to Chatham for PAC contest

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell on the road in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action against Chatham Wednesday (Feb. 8), 89-60.
 
Chatham got out to fast start in the first quarter, limiting the Gators' chances as they outpaced them 27-8. The Gators offense bounced back in the second quarter as they cut the lead down to 13 midway through. For the frame, the Gators shot 63.6% from the field (seven-of-11) but the Cougars outscored them 22-18 as they led 49-26 at halftime.
 
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) led the team with eight points in the opening half. Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) added six while leading the team with five rebounds. Alexis Caldwell (Whitefish Bay, Wis./Whitefish Bay) pulled down five rebounds in the half. 
 
In the second half, the Gators kept up their offensive pace from the second quarter, netting 17 points in each quarter. However, Chatham was able to gain a small scoring edge in the final 20 minutes, 40-34, as they wrapped up the PAC win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Laurer ended the game with 19 points. She also added five rebounds while leading the squad with four steals.
  • Bickart also finished in double-digits, netting 12 points. She tied the team-high with seven rebounds.
  • Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) added eight points with six rebounds and a pair of assists.
  • Caldwell produced six points while tying Bickart with seven rebounds. The senior also blocked a pair of shots.
  • Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) tallied five points while Branygan Bianchin (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) had four.
  • The Gators secured 17 offensive boards. 

News and Notes
  • Despite the loss, Allegheny still leads the all-time series vs. Chatham, 3-1.
  • Laurer scored double-digit points for the 20th time in 23 games so far this season.
  • She also tied a singe-game season-high with four steals, her fourth game doing so.
  • Bickart reached double figures for the ninth time as a freshman.

The Gators remain on the road Saturday (Feb. 11) when they travel to Grove City for a 1 pm PAC game.
