Gators' Second-Half Leads Slips Away in Fourth Quarter at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's basketball team couldn't hold onto its third-quarter lead on Wednesday night at Westminster College, as the Titans exploded for a 25-point fourth quarter en route to a 64-53 victory.

Allegheny (2-7, 2-3 PAC) led by two at halftime and maintained that narrow two-point advantage entering the fourth quarter, but the host Titans (5-3, 4-2 PAC) started the fourth quarter with six consecutive points. The quick start gave Westminster a 45-41 lead with just over eight minutes to play.

The difference remained two points, 51-49, with four-plus minutes left in the quarter, but the Titans limited the Gators to only four points for the remainder of the contest. Allegheny made only two field goals in the last 10 minutes of action, whereas Westminster recorded its highest shooting percentage of the evening in the fourth and was an efficient 12-of-14 from the foul line.

  • Allegheny finished 18-of-60 (30.0%) from the field and made only three 3-pointers for a 21.4 shooting percentage from beyond the arc.
  • Westminster was only slightly better at 30.8% (20-of-65).

  • Westminster's Natalie Murrio was the only Titan in double figures with 26 points and 13 rebounds.

  • Genareo has produced her two highest-scoring games of the season in the last two games; she netted a season-high 23 points at Geneva College on December 2.
  • Genareo reached double-digit points for the fourth time this winter.
  • With 10 points, Lauer is only 28 points shy of her 1,000th career point.
  • Lauer has scored double-digit points in seven of Allegheny's nine games this season.
  • Santicola recorded her fifth double-double of the season and tied a season-high with 12 boards on Wednesday.
