BETHANY, W. Va. – The third-seed Allegheny volleyball team saw their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship run end Thursday night (Nov. 9) on the road at second-seed Bethany in the semifinals.
The Bison won the sets 25-22, 25-21, 25-23.
The start of the opening set saw the teams trading points until a 3-0 run by Bethany gave them a 12-7 lead. The Gators kept the score close and staved off five set points before the Bison picked up the set, 25-22.
The second set also saw the teams evenly matched during the early portions until the Bison went on a 5-1 run to take an 18-13 lead. The Gators battled back to bring it within one point at 19-18. The set remained close, but the Bison scored the final three points of the set to take it 25-21.
A 12-9 Bethany lead led to a timeout by the Gators in the third set. Following the timeout, the Gators went on a 4-1 run to tie it at 13 apiece. The Bison would once again pull ahead, taking a 20-16 lead, but the Gators battled back with a 3-0 run to bring the lead to one point. The Bison would earn a match point at 24-22, but the Gators fought it off. However, the Bison picked up the ensuing point to capture the set 25-22.
Inside the Box
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) led the Gators with 14 kills while also matching that total in digs.
- Emma Chambers (Stoutsville, Ohio/Amanda Clearcreek) also reached double figures with 10 kills.
- Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) finished with seven kills.
- Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) led the team with 14 assists while also producing 13 digs.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 12 assists.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) recorded a team-high 18 digs.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) had eight digs.
News and Notes
- The Gators ended their season with 22 wins, their highest mark since 2000.
- Diaz finished the year with 74 aces, which is the second most in a season for a Gator.
- The team posted a 12-2 record at home this season, which is the highest win total since they went 16-0 in Meadville for the 1994 season.
