MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Allegheny College men's swimming dropped Saturday's home meet at the Mellon Pool inside the David V. Wise Center against Division II PennWest Edinboro by a score of 101-29.
The shorthanded Gators competed in four spring and mid-distance events against the Fighting Scots.
In the 200-yard freestyle,
Jack Malnar (Brecksville, Ohio/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) posted a season-best time of 1:50.84. The junior managed to cut more than two seconds off his time from last week's meet against a fellow D-II program, PennWest Clarion. Malnar was also the top Allegheny swimmer in the 100-yard freestyle at 51.40 seconds.
Both
Emmet Fluharty (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) and
Emmett Manning (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) performed well in the 100-yard breaststroke. Fluharty was the runner-up in the event with a season-best time of 1:05.23, while Manning took third place with a personal-record time of 1:06.40.
Manning's best finish was in the 50-yard freestyle. The senior placed second behind Edinboro's Braden Hain, as his time of 23.11 seconds was only about nine-tenths of a second off the leader's pace.
