MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's basketball team fell at home to Case Western Reserve Sunday (Nov. 26), 73-55, in nonconference action.
The Spartans got out to a quick start, taking a 26-11 lead in the first quarter thanks in part to five made three pointers in the frame. The Gators cut into the deficit in the second quarter. An 11-0 run midway through the quarter brought it down to 31-27. The Gators would outscore the Spartans 18-8 in the frame as they trailed 34-29 at half.
Jasmyn Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) had six points apiece while
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) had five in the opening half.
Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had eight rebounds. The Gators shot 40.0% (12-of-30) from the floor and were five-of-11 from three (45.5%).
The Spartan defense limited the Gators in the third quarter.
Analyse Rios (Orlando, Fla./Timber Creek) hit a deep three as time expired, but the teams went into the final quarter with the Spartans leading 60-38. Similar to the second quarter, Allegheny would outpace the Spartans 17-13 in the final frame, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Inside the Box
- Santicola finished the game with a career-high 19 points, and was just shy of a double-double with a team-high nine rebounds.
- Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was also in double-digits with 10 points on top of six rebounds and a team-high four assists.
- Lauer finished with nine points, eight rebounds and two assists.
- Fisher and Rios accounted for six points apiece while Genareo had five.
- Case Western Reserve held a slight edge in rebounds, 37-34.
