ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College women's basketball team fell to Gettysburg College, 86-66, in the consolation game at the University of Rochester's Chuck Resler Tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Saturday's matchup with the Bullets (1-1) had a similar pattern to Friday's first-round game against the host Yellowjackets. Allegheny (0-3) and Gettysburg went back and forth in a very tightly contested first half, but the Bullets pulled away in the third quarter and never looked back.
Allegheny trailed by 10 points with just under three minutes left in the first quarter. But the Gators ended the quarter with 10 unanswered points, including treys from
Emily Lauer (Knox, Pa./Keystone) and
Jasmyn Fisher (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills), to tie the score at 19-all. Down by 10 again in the final 30 seconds of the first half,
Jenna Lutz (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) sank a corner three, which cut the Gettysburg lead to 43-36 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Gators went cold and only converted three of their 13 shots (23.1%), and the Bullets outscored Allegheny 18-9 in the period.
The Gators received a game-high 21 points from Lauer. Lauer, who finished 7-of-8 from the foul line, also had five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) also scored in double figures with 15 and 14 points, respectively.
As a team, Allegheny shot 43.6% (24-of-55) overall and 41.2% (7-of-17) from 3-point range. Those figures weren't much lower than Gettysburg, but the Bullets attempted 70 field goals to Allegheny's 55. Gettysburg also cleaned the glass with a plus-12 rebound margin and 15 offensive boards.
