GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team overwhelmed Thiel College in the final game of the 2023 season en route to a 5-0 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory on Tuesday night.
The Gators (6-10-1, 4-5-1 PAC) played a relentless and complete 90 minutes to ensure the Tomcats (1-14-1, 0-10-0 PAC) concluded the fall campaign without a conference win. The Allegheny defense didn't allow Thiel to shoot the ball until a deep free-kick made its way on target in the 80th minute, as possession in the Tomcats' attacking third was all but non-existent.
Five different players found the back of the net for Allegheny.
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) netted the first goal in the sixth minute, as she collected a cross from
Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) inside the six-yard box and beat the goalie to the far post.
Julieta Schworm (Newark, Ohio/Licking Valley) doubled the lead less than four minutes later after receiving a perfectly placed through ball down the left-wing side from
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional).
Allegheny wasn't content with its 2-0 halftime advantage, however.
Hallie Johnson (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) hit the upper left corner in the 58th minute, and
Taylor McKindley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) rocketed a shot from about 25 yards out in the 70th minute.
Less than a minute later,
Emily Beck (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) jump-started a counterattack by weaving through defenders at midfield and feeding a long through ball to
Cara Wood (Columbus, Ohio/Bloom-Carroll) for the last goal of the evening.
