PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's basketball team made a late run, but couldn't overcome the Chatham University Cougars in an 87-77 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss on Tuesday night.
The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Gators (7-6, 5-3 PAC), who had won three consecutive conference games before the end of 2022. On the other hand, Chatham (6-6, 5-2 PAC) remained undefeated at home at 5-0.
Down by one at halftime, the deficit remained a single point for Allegheny at 60-59 with 12:32 remaining in the second half. Although the Cougars began to distance themselves with a 13-4 run, the Gators reduced the margin to one possession with just over three minutes to play.
Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) began the rally with a 3-pointer, and
Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) made a quick cut through the lane for a wide-open bucket to make it 73-68 in Chatham's favor. Following a field goal by Nick Bomar,
Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mt. Lebanon (Pa.)) and Barker netted back-to-back shots to bring Allegheny within three points, 75-73, with 3:18 to go.
Alas, the comeback attempt was nullified by the Cougars, who converted from 3-point range on their next two possessions and made their foul shots inside the final minute.
