MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team opened the home portion of their 2022 schedule with a nonconference match against Grove City, defeating the Wolverines 3-1 (25-19, 25-17, 26-28, 25-20) Wednesday (Sept. 7).
In the opening set, the Gators jumped out to an early lead but Grove City fought back to bring the Allegheny lead to 14-12. After trading points back-and-forth, the Gators closed the set on a 4-0 run. The second set saw the Wolverines jump out in front early, but the Gators went on a 5-1 run to gain a 10-9 advantage. That advantage grew to as much as eight points as Allegheny captured the second set 25-17.
Grove City controlled the pace of the third set early on, but the Gators stormed back late to tie it at 24 apiece. The Gators earned a match point at 26-25, but the Wolverines rattled off three straight points to send the match to a fourth set.
Midway through the fourth set, the Gators went on a 6-0 run to pull away. The Wolverines would mount a comeback to bring the set within two points but the Gators closed it out by tallying the final three points.
Inside the Box
- Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) led the Gators with 12 kills.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.) registered 33 digs.
- Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) had 20 digs to go alongside seven kills.
- Cetta Panza (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy) tallied 13 digs.
- India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) had eight kills and six blocks.
- Mila Anderson (San Diego, Calif./Mission Bay) and Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) had five blocks apiece.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 21 assists while Leah Ungaschick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) had 16.

- The Gators improved to 3-2 on the season.
- With the victory, Allegheny is now 26-14 all-time against Grove City.
- Diaz (33), Wilson (20) and Panza (13) all set new career-highs in digs.

The Gators travel to Mount Union for the Purple and White Invitational Sept. 9-10. They will face Mount Union Friday (Sept. 9) at 2 pm, followed by Mount St. Joseph at 6 pm.
