MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team made easy work of the visiting Highlanders from Houghton University on Tuesday afternoon, as the Gators rolled to a 9-0 victory in their first dual match of the year.
The Gators (1-0) lost only seven games in singles competition and only four in doubles against the Highlanders (1-2). Of the 12 singles sets played, only two reached a 6-2 score, while the closest doubles match in the No. 1 position ended 8-3.
Fourth-year standout
Ella Swan (Nashville, Tenn./Hume-Fogg Academic) joined second-year student-athlete
Sabrina Rodriguez (Kissimmee, Fla./Professional and Technical) as the only two Gators to finish singles play with an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 sweep. However, none of the remaining Gators surrendered more than two games in their singles bouts.
Swan and
Jean-Arlette Legrand (San Juan, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville School) teamed up in first doubles for what proved to be the most competitive match of the afternoon. The Allegheny tandem took down Chloe Esch and Elise Swanson by an 8-3 final score.
