Gators finish second at annual Allegheny Classic

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny Cross Country programs hosted the annual Allegheny Classic at the Robertson Athletic Complex on Saturday (Sept. 17).

Both squads took home second-place honors behind only NCAA Division II member Slippery Rock. The women totaled 34 points, while the men scored 43.

The women's team placed five runners in the top 10, led by Mazzie Standish (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), who crossed the finish line in 19:02, good for second place overall. Nelly Stafford (Middletown, Md./Middletown) was the second Gator to complete the three-mile course, needing 19:18 to come in fifth. Megan Aaron (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) was eighth at 19:30, while Sarah Maue (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua Area) was one place behind Aaron in ninth at 19:42. Chloe Bonson (Penn Township, Pa./Penn-Trafford) made it three-straight Gators with a 10th-place showing in 19:53. Celia Cocca (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) and Hailey Stupay (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) placed in the Allegheny top seven in 12th and 13th, respectively, with times of 20:01 and 20:07.

For the men, three Gators placed in the top 10, led by Sean Heintzleman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Winchester Thurston) who finished fourth overall with a time of 21:34. Caleb Freeman (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) and Joe McAuliffe (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) were second and third, respectively, in sixth and ninth place with times of 21:57 and 22:04. Peter Lantz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) was the fourth Allegheny runner across the finish line, timing at 22:28, which left him 11th. Xavier Grove (Pittsburgh, Pa./CAPA) completed the scorers for the Blue & Gold in 13th place at 22:31. Patrick Sharp (Brighton, N.Y./Brighton) and Mac Polny (Robinson Township, Pa./Montour) were sixth and seventh for the hosts, with Sharp's 16th place showing coming at 22:37 and Polny's 22nd place finish taking 23:14.

Both Allegheny squads will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 in Geneseo, N.Y., taking part in the Mike Woods Invitational at the National Warplane Museum.
