Volleyball sweeps Penn State Behrend on the road

ERIE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team picked up a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-15) sweep on the road against Penn State Behrend in nonconference action Wednesday (Sept. 14).
 
In the opening set tied at six, the Gators rattled off a 9-0 to pull ahead. Ahead 24-18, Elizabeth Lubold (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) finished off the set with a kill. 
 
The teams went back-and-forth throughout the start of the second set, but once again, an Allegheny run helped them to pull away. Leading 9-8, the Gators went on an 11-4 run, and scored the final three points of the set, capped off by a Kendall Crum (Chattanooga, Tenn./Girls Preparatory) kill to put the Gators ahead 2-0. 
 
Allegheny controlled the pace throughout the third set. The final five points of the match went to the Gators to secure the sweep.
 
Inside the Box
  • Cheyenne Wilson (Chico, Calif./Pleasant Valley) led the Gators with nine kills.
  • Crum added six kills while India McCruter (Columbus, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) and Dagney Javes (Fredericksburg, Colo./Dawson School) had five each.
  • Leah Ungashick (Akron, Ohio/Coventry) had 15 assists while Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 13. 
  • Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) led the team with 20 digs and three aces.
  • Crum added nine digs while Wilson had eight.
  • McCruter, Wilson, Lubold and Javes each had a pair of blocks.
 
News and Notes
  • The Gators improved to 4-6 on the season.
  • Allegheny is now 25-9 all-time against Penn State Behrend.
  • Diaz tallied 20 digs for the fifth time this year.
  • This marks the sixth time this season that Ungashick and Robare each had 10 or more assists in the same game.
 
Up Next
The Gators host their annual invitational Friday and Saturday (Sept. 16-17). They will start against Mount Aloysius Friday at 5 pm followed by Hiram at 7 pm.
