DePauw plays spoiler on Senior Day

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Allegheny closed out the 2022 season – and its time in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) – with a pair of home defeats against DePauw.

With the 13-4 and 14-5 setbacks, the Gators were eliminated from postseason contention and finished the year with a 24-15 overall record and 9-9 mark in NCAC play, having received votes in a national poll and earned a spot in the first two NCAA Division III Regional Rankings for Region VII.

Ben Kosbie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) picked up four hits on the day, including three in the night cap to run his hitting streak to 17 games to end the season. The senior ended the campaign with hits in 21 of Allegheny's final 22 games and led the team with a .397 batting average.

In the first game, Kosbie, Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Jonathan Sharp (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River) each delivered RBIs. Dougherty had a triple and Jacob Budnar (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) contributed a double for extra-base hits.

Conor Deasy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic) suffered the defeat, concluding his junior campaign with a 6-5 record.

In the second game, the Gators jumped out to a 5-0 lead through three innings thanks to a pair of RBIs from Jake Stotsky (Pittsburgh, Pa./Vincentian Academy), RBI singles by Dougherty and Chase Chodkowski (Buffalo, N.Y./West Seneca West) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)). Allegheny also got four innings of no-hit baseball from starter Daniel Morgano (Allison Park, Pa./Vincentian Academy) before the Tigers came back to tie the game at 5-5 in the fifth.

Kosbie (three) and Dougherty and Stotsky (two apiece) combined for seven of the Gators' eight hits in the second game.

Preston Pierce (Camano Island, Wash./Stanwood) fell to 0-2 after suffering the defeat in relief.
