Gators fall to No. 12 Baldwin Wallace, Denison conclusion

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Allegheny baseball team dropped a nonconference single game against No. 12 Baldwin Wallace, 8-1, in a neutral site game played at Denison following the conclusion of the Gators'-Big Red suspended game from April 11.

The Blue & Gold fell in that completion, 11-4.

The Gators fell behind Baldwin Wallace, 1-0, after one inning, but answered back with an unearned run that saw Jonathan Sharp (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) cross the plate. Sharp reached when he was hit by a pitch, went to second on a failed pick-off attempt and came in to score when Brayden Cartwright (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) reached on an error by the right fielder.

BW broke open the game in the bottom of the third with a grand slam and added a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. They tacked on two more runs in the eighth.

Ben Kosbie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy), who entered the day with a school-record 16 game hitting which was partially erased due to an 0-1 in the now completed game against Denison, improved his active streak to 13 games with three hits, including a double, against Baldwin Wallace. Ryan Dougherty (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny), Sharp and Cartwright also tallied hits.

Turner Bubeck (Katy, Texas/Katy Taylor) pitched 3.1 innings of relief, allowing just one hit and no runs while striking out three.

Allegheny is scheduled to host Kenyon in what could prove to be a pivotal NCAC doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4.
