ADA, Ohio – The Allegheny baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped with an 8-3 nonconference road loss at Ohio Northern on Sunday (April 3).
The game was 1-1 heading into the bottom of the second thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Brayden Cartwright (New Castle, Pa./New Castle) which scored
Ben Kosbie (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shady Side Academy) in the top of the second. The Polar Bears, however, struck for five runs in the bottom of the second to open up a 6-1 lead.
Allegheny battled to within 6-3 with single runs in the top of the fourth and fifth innings, but ONU added two more insurance runs of their own over the course of the game while holding the Gators off the board.
Cartwright,
Brett Heckert (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Brady Nolin (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) all recorded two hits for the Blue & Gold, with Heckert contributing a double to his credit.
Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) drew a pair of free passes.
Nolan Thompson (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) was dealt the loss, working 1.0-plus innings and allowing four hits and five earned runs.
Walker Cunningham (Cambridge Springs, Pa./Cambridge Springs),
Hunter Lohr (Bowdoinham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and
Trey DeCicco (Fairview Park, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) combined to pitch the final 7.0 innings, scattering seven hits and two runs (one earned).
Allegheny, which holds an overall record of 13-5 now, will travel to Oberlin on Wednesday, April 6 for a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader against the Yeo beginning at noon.
