GAMBIER, Ohio – The Allegheny softball team traveled to Kenyon Tuesday (April 26) for a North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) doubleheader.
Kenyon won game one 4-0 and game two 12-4.
Game One – Kenyon 4, Allegheny 0
After a pair of scoreless innings, the Ladies broke the stalemate in the third, scoring two runs to take the lead. Kenyon added one run apiece in the fourth and sixth innings while limiting the Gators offensively.
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) and
Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) supplied the hits for the Gators.
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) struck out seven.
Game Two – Kenyon 12, Allegheny 4 (5 innings)
The Gators got on the board first, scoring in the opening frame. Belardinelli singled and moved up to third on a
Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) double. Genareo drove Belardinelli home. However, the Ladies matched the Gators with a run in the bottom of the inning.
Allegheny regained the lead in the third. With the bases loaded.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) singled up the middle, driving home Belardinelli and a pinch-running
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence).
Kenyon started to pull away as they scored once in third before a seven-run fourth inning.
Long had her third RBI of the game as she doubled to score Genareo in the fifth, but Kenyon scored three in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
The Gators had eight hits in the game, led by three from Long, who drove in three runs. Belardinelli also had a multi-hit game.
Allegheny's doubleheader against Westminster for Wednesday, April 27 has been postponed due to inclement weather and is likely to be rescheduled for Thursday, April 28. Stay tuned to AlleghenyGators.com for more information.
