MEADVILLE, Pa. –
Grace Baginski (Lakeville, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) scored eight first-half goals to lead the Allegheny women's lacrosse team to a 22-12 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) win over Oberlin on the Robertson Blue Turf.
Baginski's eight goals finished one shy of the school record, and marks the 10th time a Gator has scored eight or more goals in a match, with the most recent coming when Shelby Piper scored eight goals against Wooster on April 26, 2017.
The Gators got off to a fast start, outscoring Oberlin 9-3 in the first quarter. Baginski was responsible for six of those goals.
Senna Perelman (Cleveland, Ohio/Cleveland Heights),
Liz Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) and
Ema Caragein (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton La Salle) tallied the other three goals in the frame.
The second quarter saw the Gators grow their lead to 14-7. Baginski scored two more goals in the quarter while
Lauren Petrarca (Simi Valley, Calif./Royal) had a pair of tallies in the frame. Perelman also notched her second goal of the game during the quarter.
Caragein, Pertrarca and Perelman all completed their hat tricks in the third quarter while
Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly) also found the back of the net.
Petrarca, Dolan and
Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) notched goals in the fourth quarter as the Gators secured the conference win.
Baginiski led the Gators with nine points.
Devin Gaffney (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) (4a), Petrarca (4g) and Perelman (3g, 1a) all finished with four points. Caragein had three points on three goals while Dolan had three points on two goals and one assist. Herrold and Amato had a goal while
Maddie Miller (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) had an assist.
Molly Wojcik (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton) led the Gator defense with five ground balls. Caragein,
Mary Allen (Victor, N.Y./Victor) and Dolan had three each. Allen caused three turnovers while Herrold and
Gabby Eberle (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) had two each. Herrold had a career-high 13 draw controls.
Sarah Thorman (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) made 10 saves to earn the win in net. It marked her sixth time in double figures for saves in a match this season. She also contributed two caused turnovers and two ground balls for the Gators.
Allegheny will celebrate its seniors prior to Saturday's home finale, which will be a 12 p.m. NCAC match against Wittenberg.
