Softball opens season at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team opened its season with a road doubleheader at Waynesburg Tuesday (March 15).

The Gators fell in both ends of the doubleheader by identical 1-0 scores.

In game one, the lone run came across the plate via a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth. Making her collegiate debut, pitcher Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) allowed just three hits and no earned runs while striking out five. Offensively, Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton La Salle Catholic) provided the pair of hits for the Gators.

In game two, Waynesburg scored an unearned run in the first inning, which proved to be the only tally of the contest. Also making her collegiate debut, Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) allowed just three hits, no earned runs or walks, all while striking out seven. Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) had a double in the game while Horensky and Jordan Williams (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) had singles.

The Gators return to action Saturday (March 19) when they travel to participate in the Spring Games in Florida. They will face Kalamazoo and Wisconsin Stevens Point in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively.
