WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team opened its season with a road doubleheader at Waynesburg Tuesday (March 15).
Â
The Gators fell in both ends of the doubleheader by identical 1-0 scores.
Â
In game one, the lone run came across the plate via a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth. Making her collegiate debut, pitcher
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) allowed just three hits and no earned runs while striking out five. Offensively,
Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton La Salle Catholic) provided the pair of hits for the Gators.
Â
In game two, Waynesburg scored an unearned run in the first inning, which proved to be the only tally of the contest. Also making her collegiate debut,
Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) allowed just three hits, no earned runs or walks, all while striking out seven.
Joplin Osgood (Coudersport, Pa./Coudersport) had a double in the game while Horensky and
Jordan Williams (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) had singles.
Â
The Gators return to action Saturday (March 19) when they travel to participate in the Spring Games in Florida. They will face Kalamazoo and Wisconsin Stevens Point in a doubleheader at 10 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively.
