WOOSTER, Ohio -- The Allegheny men's basketball team was defeated 86-79 in the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) quarterfinals on Tuesday (Feb. 22).
Allegheny jumped out to an 18-12 start fueled by nine points from Caden Hinckley (Boise, Idaho/Mount Lebanon (Pa.)) and six points from Brian Roberts, Jr. (Copley, Ohio/Copley). However, Wooster rallied back with the long ball and exited the half ahead 41-29.
Overall, Allegheny trailed by as little as two points and outscored Wooster 50-45 in the second period. Additionally, the Gators improved their shooting from 36 percent in the first frame to 53 percent in the last 20 minutes of regulation. Roberts, Jr. also added 12 more to his total, whereas Andre Wilder (Beaver Falls, Pa./Lincoln Park) and Luke Barker (New Castle, Pa./Struthers (Ohio)) finished the game on a high note with eight and seven points, respectively.
Roberts, Jr. paced all players with 23, while collecting his 1,100th point and entering Allegheny's top-20 all-time scoring list. Hinckley picked up his fifth consecutive double-double and accomplished the feat for the 15th time in the 2021-22 campaign with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He averaged 15.3 points and 11.1 boards per game. He was the only NCAC member to average a double-double this season.
Wilder reached double figures as well with 11 tallies and tied for Hinckley for a team-high two steals on the day.
The Gators concluded the season 8-14, 6-9 NCAC and earned the number seven seed en route to their third straight postseason appearance.
